Originally called Siam, Thailand lies in the heart of South-east Asia, dropping down in a long narrow peninsula to meet Malaysia at its southern tip. The top of the country borders Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. Thailand is a country rich in culture and natural beauty. It has been blessed with expansive natural parks, fertile plains, remote jungles, beaches washed by turquoise waters and tropical islands bathed in endless sunshine. Thailand has a humid, tropical climate, and enjoys hot weather all year round. Summer temperatures can soar to over 40°C while in the cool season temperatures rarely drop below 20°C.

The Thai people, on a whole, are a peaceful, fun-loving folk, who believe that life should be 'sanuk' or fun. They are also a strong people who are proud of their independence and culture.
